Racing Queensland today confirmed that the Bundaberg Club has been elevated to T.A.B. status. What a boon for racing in the Wide Bay Fraser coast regions of Queensland. I predict a return of the days of years past when we had more dogs to accomodate a 10 race meeting every week. We will see new people come into the industry and with the prediction that this area is on the verge of a new mining boom it can only be good for the region and the industry as a whole. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank John Falvey for having the foresight and the vision to know that our industry needs to be strong from the tip of Cape York to the Tweed Border and the world does not revolve around the south east corner. I would urge all industry participants to support the recent changes for the betterment of Greyhound Racing in QUEENSLAND.

Shane.......How many tracks are situated in Bundaberg?
Your question is flawed.
You'll have to use another angle.

Shane,

I think it would give option too a lot of participants in QLD. Since Rockhamptopn has gone TAB, the quality of dog there has improved considerably. Even attracting trainers from further North and boys from the "big smoke"

If Bundy are allocated TAB racing, i would think it would be a high boost for the entire region's participants from all around Bundy and Rocky and possibly further North. It gives more of an incentive. I think you will find over the next 12 months, the class of dog in the Bundaburg and Rockhampton will rise and given the fact it has already risen with Rocky's TAB progress.

In all, all this "betterment" will allow for hopefully decent sized betting pools and warrant the increase of prize money in the region.

Good luck guys...

Thanks to all all the people who have supported the up grade of Bundy to T.A.B. status. To those who question the number of dogs within the region, let me put it this way, between the Fraser Coast region through to the Gladstone region which is untouched we would have well over 250,000 people within 2 hours of Bundy . This region is untapped with coal mining predicted from the Maryborough region right through to Gladstone, this is one of the growth areas of QLD, lets embrace those possibilities. As an aside to any other comments I had a phone call today from a well respected owner / breeder who asked of the possibilities of placing dogs in this area because of the new status.

Great news Bundy is going TAB ,Are the funds going to be available to get the facilities to TAB standard.Sectional timing is a necessity. To me the kennels need an overhaul a piece of mesh for a gate is not up to requirements and no dividers between kennel race blocks, kennels kept for trial dogs whilst race dogs are loaded on top of each other is ridiculous. The swab kennels are disgusting it's like locking your dog in a broom closet. How about the starting boxes and the number of no-races ,the number of races that should be no races but aren't called. The no parking outside the kennel exit door where a promising cup place getter had her tail broken by a rebound off a door hitting a blue car parked outside.Congratulations Bundy but you will have to lift your game and act like a TAB venue.

C'mon John, the place isnt all that bad.

What is needed now more than ever is a UNITED FRONT in Bundaberg.
It hasnt happened since moving here over 7 years ago but maybe with this goal/carrot dangled in front of us up here, maybe we will see a cahnge of attitudes from a select few.
For a start the in fighting must stop!

I for one will put my hand up to do anything that is required.(When I get back from overseas that is.)
Some of the committee really need to have a good hard look at what they are currently doing & what will be expected of them in the future, as other participents in the area will no longer put up with their slackness.

Sponsorship should come a lot easier to get with national coverage, as this has been the obsticle in the past from the big names in town. Not enough expsore locally for them.

Brian,
The place isn't that bad, but, Is it up to standard for national exposure as you put it?I say no, I raced in Bundy regularly from 1989-1996 I recently returned for several meetings, nothing has changed its all just gotten 20 years older .My point is after years of neglect and attempts to close Bundy down Racing Qld needs to do more than say we'll fund the tv cable. They need to fund the upgrade of the facility ensure the place is running to rule and then they won't be broadcasting greyhounds from another second rate venue.

John, I see no difference in the facilites of Bundaberg to that of Rockhampton. Sure a few things need to get sorted out & I am sure they will be once everyone up here gets stuck into it.

From racing at a lot of tracks in NSW Bundaberg is in no worse condition than Bulli, Dapto, Richmond or Nowra. Things may have changed down there since moving to QLD but the facility in Bundaberg is OK in comparison to many other clubs.

Bathurst in NSW was in a similar situation. They were a non tab club for years. Facilites in Bundaberg are far superior to what they had at the time. They were given TAB and have never looked back.

They raced at Beenleigh and it was no better than a trial track in NSW. Those conditions werent flash at all.

Section timing is a must for the form student & I am sure it can be accommodated. I made some enquiries a few years back regarding this, but due to costs it wasnt an option at the time. Maybe there is a diferent option available now. The finsih linx has an option for this but requires a sensor over the back. Ususally we use the 250/720m boxes as the split section from the 460m.

The tracks outer perimeter needs updating with a coat of paint & clearing off the outdated sponsors & adding the new where required. Some good spots there for any sponsors wanting to get some good expsore. The track is in good condition all year round for a grass track. The lights are good but dont think a bank of them have been reconnected after using the 3 phase for the electric motor for the cable. Wouldnt take much to get them going but dont think they will be required from what has been said.

There is another room on the back of the kennel block which can be converted, curently a groundsmans room, maybe into the swab area. I am sure the changes required will be made.

You would think this day & age with the internet technology that links & bearers wouldnt be required. The l;ast cost when we looked into it after the cable lure went in was in the 120k range. I just couldnt see why it had to cost so much. The track has a connection to ADSL broadband. Have always wonderd why this couldnt be used to beam out the pictures.

I would hope vision and positioning of cameras would be better that Rockhampton. Rocky is impossible to study replays because you just cant see what happens out of the 407m boxes. I know several serious punter that won't bet on them.

I am aware it is beneficial for the club & participants to have TAB meetings but they shouldnt be on Sky Channel until the vision is up to standard.
