Sandro, VIC is not more progressive . 5 Percenters are ruling everywhere. The government (state & federal), media, radio, television, journalism has now been taken over by the 5%er's while normal people stand idly bye. If you mandate to employ 5%er's and your whole organisation is comprised 100% of 5%ers, where does that leave the normal people??? Could i get a job at "your" A.B.C.? Answer , an emphatic "NO"!!! Why?, because i am a white, grey haired normal hetero-sexual, whose politics sit to the right of Genghis Khan, but every fruit-cake & weirdo gets a walk up start. I can't believe greyhounds are going so well in VIC with a bunch of 5%ers running the government, led by the glue & glitter parade. Beware, something is not right!!

Didn't they just announce a permanent $1m annual increase in prizemoney across the board for 500m+ races with more feature heat/final races being held?

NSW increase for the 500m+ dogs is only guaranteed to 30th June 2021..I am hoping it becomes permanent and to a greater degree

VIC's appears to be set in stone

The Phoenix from what I understand is being funded by non-industry generated money and the rest from sponsorship. correct me if I have the details wrong about that?

On this forum, we've seen topics from the US and UK/Ire regarding closures and fears for the future of the Industry in those regions.

In Australia we were reeling after the ABC Feature on live baiting and to see the reaction to this from everyone from the top down has been brilliant to see. We very easily could be on the brink of losing our passion for good. But at the moment I personally don't think we could be in better shape considering where we have come from.

I am getting the impression we have a number of posters in this topic who just like to complain and play the victim. Whether you like The Phoenix concept (or National Greyhound Draft for that matter) I find it hard to reconcile people not at least respecting and appreciating the fact that our sport is being passionately and pro-actively promoted.

There are plenty of ways to promote this great sport Wade.
Allowing unregistered investors to get involved is not one of them.
I have strongly supported GRV in many areas. I think Victoria's grading is easily the best and fasttrack is years ahead of ozchase.
I love the pink diamond concept too.
But this Phoenix idea is a disgrace.
Compare the MDC which allows anyone to enter and runs regional heats, semi-finals and the big finale. It's brilliant.
Even the launching pad at $2k per ticket is available to everyone.
Sorry mate, this is not playing the victim.
This is pointing out a plain dumb idea.

Jamie,

The Thrill of the Chase is to be commended as a physical method used to promote to a wider audience. (But still fails to provide Sub Titles). However, I repeat an earlier comment about the big meeting that it needs better choreography - not impressed with portly gentlemen in dowdy grey coats leading dogs around.

The Phoenix may be equated to the Everest (when details are known) so it has every chance of success.

What is not right is the typical pattern of authorities declining to offer the full story. How, why and wherefrom did the new distance incentive program emerge? What alternatives (for the investment) were considered and rejected? Why have previous distance bonuses failed? What research was conducted? Or was it just someone saying "It would be a good idea".

GRNSW is no different.

Incidentally, note that the MDC has essentially been funded from the outside - sponsor plus unclaimed dividend fund - and was almost certainly pushed by the Minister's office, not the code.

Also note that neither GRV or GRNSW have done anything worthwhile to rebuild the dog population - 6-doggers and 300m races are now dominant. In fact, GRV have done even less by further pushing the discriminatory Vicbred concept. Nothing - absolutely nothing - can be more important than breeding. The horrific decline in Tote betting would run a good second, followed by the absence of info on corporates' turnover/pricing.

The two most important people in this industry are
BREEDERS AND THE PUNTER

Cost to breed a litter have doubled in the last few years and nobody sets out to breed tier 3 dogs but it happens with all breeders

The betting on these dogs plays no small part in turnover and the cost
to maintain these dogs is the same and the stake money is poor

I am not a fan of short races but to set the increase stake money starting at 480m will not get people to put dogs already breed and racing over the shorts to do so IMHO

I think GRSA has got it right in the breeding aspect

I`m not one to complain Wade but-
much of the damage re live baiting was the result of inaccurate (and still used)incorrect data provided by the head of greyhounds Australasia re uthenasia of dogs that never existed. - arguably had more weight in the mcue report and others that resulted in bairds cry for industry closure - active promotion?

Financial year comparisions (18-19) (19-20) shows -

grv total income increased by 2.8%

grv board wages & expences increased by 24.5%

grv admin wages & expenses increased by 6.6%

stake money travellers etc reduced by 1.78%

wheres the passion for the sport?

At a club level administrators have increased wages by 43% since 2017 including paying committee positions for the skills brought to the club

In 2017 a club had investments and accounts of approx. 950k
in 2020 its reduced to less than 450k

out of this the participants have received a picture of a new car park and plans for a kennel block

during the same period a club has lost 3 track managers and is now onto its fourth

passionate?

GRV financial reports shows a loan to Sandown Club of 900k
to establish a greyhound farm while participant rearers have empty runs

victims?

GRV industry consultative group was approached with the notion of establishing a charter of rights (just like footballers, jockeys, athletes etc) idea was declined but a list of 8 authorities that would happily listen to and support participant greviences with GRV
was provided.
all authorities were tested - none were interested

patronising yes?

High ranking GRV identity has 5 minutes of fame on the telly at silver chief and australia cup and in both instances emotions run too high for their own good

is I t passion in the work place or snouts in troughs?

note though the phoenix concept is has been promoted by a person named ash

omen?

One of your best Posts...
Lets not forget the bully boy tactics used by the GRV and today
i got hassled for a kennel inspection months after I ADOPTED OUT MY LAST GREYHOUND....The GRV still insist on viewing my kennel even after i told them i pulled it down ....

There is nothing good about a Controlling body the GRV that bully's it way forward even the GOTBA are now intimatated ..

How could a PAY your way race be of any interest to the smaller OTB in Vic its serve no purpose for 99% of the industry
Sandown Syndicate has suckered 1 mill of the industry funds to serve 1% of the industry .
Wade
If you are happy with how the GRV run things then good for you but please don't try and shame a person for having a differing opinion about OUR INDUSTRY everyone has the right say what they want if the facts are real ....

If the GRV was any other business you would sack the ceo AND THE BOARD HAVE YOU SEEN HOW MUCH MONEY THE grv has spent on running costs alone or do you have blinkers on when faced with the truth the facts .

A couple of years ago Allan Clayton spoke at a seminar at the Meadows he showed GRV stats that showed 2% of participants took home 80% of prize money. He said he was going to change that spread the rewards more evenly.Since then we have had $10000 match races,Pink Diamonds and a Phoenix [proposed] all cash splashes for the 2%ers. The heats appear to have guarded draws to ensure the top dogs get to the finals the 98%ers are just used to fill the gaps.Did Clayton lie or are the generals not listening to him.
On the shortage of dogs,we are in the middle of a pandemic, a lot people are not working, on reduced wages or if they are working not confident that will continue. I have not heard of anyone who has received a call from the GRV or the GOTBAV just to ask RUOK
All you get from the GRV is threats, bigger penalties, by simply adding a threshold to knackery meat {they have in other states} they would reduce the financial and emotional stress to 90% who really can't afford human consumption meat. They already have a threshold on arsenic and cobalt.

Chris, The solution is to get rid of the bureaucracy and install a corporation responsible to all - ie the public and the participants - and sack them if they don't work out.
