But if you are like me and a sole owner (which is our choice)then we carry all the risk and also get the rewards, but when there's no rewards then its a big loss.

For example I just brought two pups for $1,400..by the time they get to the track lets say 19 months at $400 a month ( $50 each a week) = $7,600.

So these two pups will cost me at least $9,000 so I need to make $18,000 Prizemoney just to break even....this could happen, but then again it could not, they could be injured in rearing, they may not chase, they may be fighters, wide runners, they may not be able to jump, they may turn around in the boxes, they may break thier hock first slip, ..who knows untill they start racing.

But it cant be about the money, if you want to make money put it in the bank or bank shares, putting it into a 3 month old pup..well its just luck at the end of the day isnt it if it makes it to the track, as long as you have good rearers you get every chance though.
If the pup dosent get injured, get a snake bite, get a twisted bowel , hit a tree and die in the paddock etc..(ive had most of that happen to me) it can make you feel gutted, but its not about making money and i would do it all again as ive loved the time seeing the pups grow up make it to the track, breeding a litter, seeing a winner from that litter...that's priceless..

Re Training fees I always pay $50 a week till they race, then either 50/50 with me paying vet bills, or 50/50 trainer keeps first $300 and they pay for any small vet bills.

If I was ever lucky enough to have a group dog...well I dont care about 70/30....id take 50/50 as my trainers been there for me with crap dogs and good ones.
