My dear gentle Spot has just come back from the vet after having been attacked by a small dog. We were walking past a lamp post as the owner was tying her up to go into a local shop. This dog just flew at Spot in a totally unprovoked attack, biting him in five places on his back legs,(spot did not defend himself) this owner has been asked to leave the shop on a few occasions for "forgetting to pay for items" so there's no chance of a contribution to his bill and it was just below my excess. The woman's excuse "she's scared of big dogs"!!!.I'm furious. But I do feel a little better now I've let off steam!!!

ps It's my birthday today!!!x

Thanks. Pia can be rather scarey I think I will ask her to sort her out for me. Spot will be fine, he does seem to get picked on a bit now he's older, (he's 10 1/2 now) but he's never been bitten before, just snapped at, so it was a terrible shock to us both x

Valerie, I am so sorry to hear of Spot being attacked by a Terrier.
I have two Terriers and they are on one of my profiles.
I can say terriers have abad reputation for attacking any dogs, as I can testify, as I have had my boy Pips attack three dogs. No damage done in the attacks, as he was attacked by a labrador of all dogs, as my dog stuck his head in the fence just to say hello.
Pips wasn't the first dog the lab had attacked.
Now I walk them on a field where only dogs can go and let them off.
Fear agression is the problem but I CERTAINLY would not tie my dogs up when shopping as I leave them at home.
Fear Aggression is no excuse whatsoever for the dog attacking another dog though.
I hope Spots injuries get better soon.
All the best Marion

Thanks I expect Spots injuries look worse than they are. The woman told me that she keeps a muzzle in her bag as the dog is also scared of children. The muzzle was not on her dog at the time of the attack. I did give her the telephone number of a dog trainer that I know who might be able to help her dog with it's issues. Needless to say that was before I realised Spot had been bitten in five places, his back legs are rather stiff at the mo as that's where the bites are (both legs), but it could have been worse as Spot pulled me into the middle of the road and tried to slip his collar in order to escape, luckily there was no traffic at the time!!!

Must of been a very worrying thing for you both. Just as well no traffic was around otherwise both of you could of been seriously hurt.
Noticed on you profile that you have two greyhounds. Is Spot the white/black one???
Would you tell me the breeding of both of them please?????????
I am curious to know who their dads are.
No, I don,t work, breed or own a greyhound but have worked with them.
I still have a very soft spot for these gentle loveable dogs.
My two terriers are very strong and I have a job to hold them sometimes, but having haltis on them both it is easier.

Hi Marion, Spots the black and white one, the other one Banjo belongs to Pia and stays with us when Pia and Kelvin go on holidays. Spot will be fine as I took him for a walk in our local park this afternoon (the attack happened this morning) I got nervous at the amount of dogs in the park but hooked up with a man I know and his terrier, Spot wasn't bothered by his dog so no mental scarring for him, just for me. Spots been in the wars quite a bit lately as he's recently recovered from a nasty bout of colitus. I've been to the vet so often that I'm thinking of asking for my own parking space Lol ! x

ps Marion, Spots race name is Vintage Snow, his dad was Vintage Prince, his Mum Lemon Snowdrop, he didn't race much as he had trouble grading, he raced once at Sittingbourne and came last by 6 lengths so instead of grading again his owner gave him up and he came to live with me. My first grey was Sulkys whisper (Crispin) his dad was Whisper whishes who I was told was an awesome dog. Crispin ran hurdles at sittingbourne and lived with me for two years until his passing of Cancer at 9yrs age. He is the reason why I have Spot and they are both the reason why I will never be without one as I totally love the breed. xx
